Former Celtic Player Failing To Replicate Past Form
Celtic were involved in a good bit of business when they sold fan favourite Stuart Armstrong to Southampton back in 2018, as the midfielder hasn’t exactly took the league by storm.
Armstrong himself wanted to leave Celtic and made his feelings clear on the matter and with a nice £7 million offer from Southampton, the Hoops couldn’t resist the payday.
The midfielder celebrated his 28th birthday on Monday, and a number of Celtic supporters responded to a tweet about the midfielder’s time with the club, with many suggesting they’d like to see him return one day.
Not Working Out
And when you look at his record for the Hoops, it’s easy to see why. The Scotland international was a creative force in midfield during his time at Celtic, contributing to a total of 53 goals in 144 matches for the club, scoring 28 and assisting 25.
However, the midfielder hasn’t had much luck with his from in England.
With just seven goals in 57 appearances thus far, Saints have essentially paid Celtic £1m for each goal he has scored for them.
There are some fans who would love to see Armstrong back playing for the Hoops as his style suits the way Lennon loves to set-up, we aren’t saying Celtic should sign him but if Lennon were to lose Christie or McGregor, Armstrong would be a sensible instant replacement.
