Tam McManus has heavily criticised Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas for his shocking display against Sevco on Saturday.
The 26-year-old joined the Scottish Champions from Greek outfit AEK Athens during the last transfer window, Barkas came to Glasgow with a decent reputation for being a great shot stopper.
So far the Greek has yet to prove to fans that he’s the real deal as Barkas still hasn’t had that big game moment in a Celtic shirt.
Many fans and pundits are blaming him for the first goal on Saturday but to be fair I reckon he should have challenged the ball for Goldson’s second goal.
The keeper can be seen just watching Goldson and standing in the centre of goal all tucked up, a keeper of his size should be making himself HUGE and even making an attempt to go for the scrambling ball.
Am I being too harsh, maybe.
McManus had his say:
“Barkas, I mean [his] first real test, I thought was Saturday against Rangers. I think he’s horrendous at the first goal. He’s got to save that.
“I look at David Marshall, who was available on a free transfer. [He had] 12 clean sheets in a row for Wigan at the tail-end of last season and he’s just been outstanding for Scotland.
“He could’ve come up on a free. [Celtic] spent £5million on Barkas, I think it is a waste of money.”
