Today, Scotland will face Slovakia in the UEFA Nations League and while most fans didn’t want our players to take part in any international football as it has been hindering our domestic season, this time it could actually benefit the Scottish Champions.

Over the course of the last few months/weeks, Celtic still haven’t been able to get their strikers to gain some form, this has been due to many factors such as fitness, Covid-19 and the manager not having the same players on a weekly basis.

However, with Scotland having qualified for the Euro 2020 for the first time in 22 years after their win over Serbia, Steve Clarke must now give some of the so-called fringe players some game time to assess them and see if they are worthy of more international caps.

The reason that this could prove beneficial to the likes of Neil Lennon would be the fact that Leigh Griffiths proved he’s got the bottle after only coming on the pitch for 3 minutes while being the first player to step up to the mark and take one of the most important penalties he’ll ever take.

If Steve Clarke can give Leigh Griffiths a good run out today against Slovakia it could be the turning point in the players season and bring him up to scratch for his Celtic return.

If the Celtic striker manages to give a good performance for Scotland and get a decent run out then Neil Lennon cannot afford to not present a starting opportunity in his next squad selection.
