Arsenal are reportedly closing in on an agreement for Kieran Tierney after restructuring their offer for the Celtic star.

Unai Emery identified Tierney as his number target at left-back at the start of the summer and the Gunners have tested Celtic’s resolve with two unsuccessful bids for the 22-year-old Scotland international.

While Arsenal met Celtic’s £25million asking price for Tierney, they wanted to pay the transfer fee in installments and add-ons and the Bhoys were not satisfied with the package on the table.

However, according to The Daily Mail, Arsenal have made a major breakthrough are on the verge of landing Tierney after restructuring their £25m offer for the full-back.

The Gunners have now agreed to pay a larger proportion of the fee up front which looks to have been decisive.

Tierney has informed Celtic that he’s keen to secure a move south of the border and the Scottish champions are increasingly resigned to losing their prized possession.

Emery is keen to get a deal over the line for Tierney as quickly as possible, with Nicolas Pepe’s arrival set to be announced in the coming hours.

Arsenal have also brought in Gabriel Martinelli, Dani Ceballos and William Saliba this summer, but the latter will be loaned back to Saint-Etienne for the 2019/20 season.

Virgil van Dijk, who shared a dressing room with Tierney during his Celtic days, has backed his former team-mate to succeed should he join Arsenal.

‘It is not an easy step to make and you have to play well to do it but he has the qualities,’ the Liverpool defender said.

‘Kieran made his debut against Dundee when I was at Celtic.

‘I scored a free-kick up there and then he came on and helped us get the win. You could tell he was a good player who would do well.’

Andy Robertson, Tierney’s team-mate at international level, is confident his compatriot will make the ‘right choice’ this summer.

‘I’ve played with KT for Scotland and he’s played right back and centre back. I’ve watched him and he’s a very good footballer,’ Robertson told Sky Sports.

‘Last season he obviously had his injury problems.
