Barkas Set To Start In Kilmarnock Debut For Celtic
Neil Lennon has confirmed that new signing Vasilis Barkas could be set to make his debut in this Sunday’s game against Kilmarnock as the big Greek has been doing well in training sessions.
It is very good news as fans could be set to finally see what the club’s £4.5 million signing has to offer the squad as Barkas could be starting against Kilmarnock this coming Sunday, as confirmed by Neil Lennon.
The 26 year old signed for the Scottish Champions from Greek outfit AEK Athens for a considerable fee and has still to make his debut as Scott Bain started last week in Celtic’s 5-1 thrashing of Hamilton Accies.
With Celtic only having one key goalie after departures of Gordon and Forster, Lennon needed to strengthen that area of the squad as Bain couldn’t have the huge task of playing on his own on all fronts in such an important season.
Speaking at today’s media conference, the Celtic manager said that he would have a decision to make as to whether he replaces Bain with the Greek International.
“He’s had a good week’s training so we’ll make a decision on that in the next 24 hours.
“But he’s had a good week in training. Going to Rugby Park, it will be – I wouldn’t say an eye-opener for him – but certainly a bit different. There will be no fans plus the artificial pitch. So we’ll need to make sure he’s as well prepared as possible by kick-off time in terms of the conditions and circumstances he’ll face.”
