Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has signed a contract extension at Celtic Park, keeping him in Glasgow until the summer of 2024.

Since joining the club from cinch Premiership rivals Dundee in 2018, the Edinbugh-born man has gone on to make 74 appearances in the Hoops under Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon and Ange Postecoglou.

In 2021/22, he has featured four times for Celtic, keeping one clean sheet in a a draw away to St Mirren. He is now set to stay on until 2024, providing competition between the sticks for Joe Hart to contend with.

Bain contract extension may be part of a bigger plan

Seemingly not in the market for a back-up goalkeeper, Bain may be used as a short-term back up whilst Celtic B Team goalkeeper Tobi Oluyawemi develops in the background.

Ange Postecoglou is said to rate the youngster very highly, whilst the former Tottenham youth player has already been involved in first-team training and matchday squads.

In a difficult environment to attract goalkeepers who are happy to settle for a place on the bench at Parkhead, securing Bain on a new deal may be a necessary transaction from the Bhoys as they look forward to the rest of the season.
