Neil Lennon has shed some light on the extent on the injury that led Kris Ajer to be taken off just as Celtic were in the lead against Lille last Thursday night.
The big Norwegian was the key player against Lille and Celtic were cruising with a 2-0 lead.
However, Ajer had to be taken off and the Hoops took a 2 goal hit which led to a credible draw in the Europa League.
Many Celtic fans did wonder how the game would have ended if Kris Ajer was still on the pitch come the final whistle.
Lennon shed some light on his injury:
“We haven’t got clarity on the extent of the injury. He’s to go for a scan so we’ll know more when we get the results back. I think it’s safe to say he won’t play on Sunday. He just felt something go in his groin and he couldn’t continue.
“He was very stiff on the plane on the way back. We won’t be able to determine how long he’s out for until we get the scan results. He’s been playing really well. I just think it’s a culmination of a lot of games, a bit of muscle fatigue in there.”
There’s no hiding the fact that Kris Ajer being out of the game remains a huge blow to the squad, Neil Lennon is already without Jullien and now Ajer.
That would mean that both Celtic’s key defenders from last season are out on the sidelines.
With Bitton back into the fold it provides Lennon some relief but it’s slim pickings at Celtic just now, Lennon would need to make sure his team selection is perfect to get a result from Aberdeen today.
