Noel Whelan has stated that Celtic and Rangers will face a strong battle from the English Championship over signing Aberdeen’s top striker as Sam Cosgrove could be on the move during the summer transfer window.

The former Aberdeen player admits that Cosgrove looks to be on the move soon and Celtic better get in fast before the introduction of English based clubs. (source)

Cosgrove has been in fine form for Aberdeen this season, scoring 23 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions

The striker has great physical talent that could be useful to Celtic but Lennon already has too many as it is and that could make the deal a non-starter.

Whelan states:

“I am sure they will have their eye on him but they will face competition from a lot of Championship teams,”

“He has had a very good season. A goalscorer who will be at the right price and the right age. He is not even in his best years yet.

“A player that has a lot of improving to do and could be a good commodity and a good buy for many clubs. He will not cost a massive amount but he could be worth a lot in three years’ time. Sam Cosgrove is an investment.

“Goalscorers do not go under the radar. I am sure Celtic and Rangers are looking at it.”

Our Thoughts

Sam Cosgrove is a good player, we don’t think he’s Celtic material though, Lennon has four strikers at his disposal already and if Edouard stays for another season then we are fine in that department.
