Ben Chilwell has delivered some positive news to Celtic on Friday – albeit indirectly.
It is reported that Rodgers will try and push ahead with a £25 million move for a player he turned into a star north of the border – but only if Ben Chilwell leaves the King Power Stadium for Premier League champions Manchester City.
Speaking to Leicestershire Live, however, Chilwell suggested that this won’t be necessary after all.
“He thinks over the next few years we can be challenging in Europe, and he can improve us,” said the England international.
“There’s no reason why any of us should move on.”
That hardly sounds like a player who is angling for a move. Instead, it seems that Chilwell cannot wait to get to work under the former Liverpool boss and is keen to stay at the King Power for the foreseeable future.
It seems unlikely, then, that Leicester will attempt to raid Celtic for Tierney if Chilwell is sticking around. After all, both players are far too good to be stuck on the bench.
Unfortunately for Celtic, however, Chilwell’s future is unlikely to impact Rodgers’ attempts to reunite with Callum McGregor or James Forrest, as reported by The Times.
