Neil Lennon has publicly backed his marquee signing to overcome the last few weeks of criticism as Celtic look ahead to our match against French club Lille.

It’s another Europa League match tonight and there are no signs of Shane Duffy being dropped from the first team as Celtic aim to get their first win in the Europa League group stages.

Neil Lennon has confirmed that he has had a chat with Shane Duffy and both understand the pressure of playing with the Scottish Champions, Lennon has full confidence in Duffy’s ability to bounce back from his poor form.

Many Celtic fans would have liked to see Duffy dropped from the squad, would it be the correct thing to do?

Lennon stated:

“Shane is a big, strong boy.

“I had a chat with him the other night. He’s feeling it but he will come through it.

“We just need to show him a bit of patience. He made a mistake at the weekend, but the vitriol that comes after it is incredible.

“Again, it is my job to support him and that is exactly what I will do.

“It isn’t the first time players have been thrown into the lion’s den in terms of insults and criticism.

“I know what Shane is going through but he has the character and personality to bounce back straight away.”

We all thought that Duffy would stroll the Scottish League and at the beginning he did, there’s definitely something in the whole International break theory that Neil Lennon has stressed also.

Mostly all of the players who have went to play for their respective national teams have came back lesser forms of themselves and hopefully the game against Lille could spark some change and hunger in Duffy and the rest of the players and their forms.
