For those involved – players, club personnel, supporters, and the man himself – Ange Postecoglou’s time at Celtic has been a whirlwind.
He joined the club in a tough circumstance, having recently suffered a crushing defeat in one of the most anticipated seasons in decades.
From the start, over a year ago, he went out with the solitary purpose of restoring Celtic to their former glory. He can finally ponder on it all now that he’s on vacation in Greece with his feet up.
On Australian radio this morning, Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou was in a laid-back attitude, engaging with the Sportsday show and offering an insight into what it’s like to be the famous manager of Celtic in a city like Glasgow.
As you’d imagine, it’s been a learning curve, as Postecoglou puts it:
“Right from the start, it’s just that sort of city. As you can imagine, there are only really two clubs of any interest in the city of Glasgow and you can’t escape it, particularly if you become a manager of one of the two clubs.
“It meant adjusting lifestyle for the family. We’ve tried to keep it as normal as possible. The first few times when we ventured out to a shopping centre, we figured out that can’t happen anymore.
“But everyone is really welcoming. I guess having success helps that. It was an adjustment in terms of the instant recognition people have of me, as opposed to when I was back home.
“At the same time, I love it. People are passionate about sport, passionate about their football club – that’s the stuff I love so I’m happy to fit in with that.”
If you have the time, listen to the entire 15-minute interview. He doesn’t reveal any transfer information or intentions for Celtic’s future, but it’s good to hear Postecoglou talking about life at Celtic in such a pleasant manner.
He’s a happy man right now, having accomplished something no one anticipated of him in his rookie season.
He’s probably working on planning for what’s coming up after the summer vacation in between excursions to the beaches and restaurants of Greece. After all, he never stops!
