Marian Shved has completed a year long loan move to Belgian club KV Mechelen as the winger looks to revive his career after a frustrating time in Scotland since joining Celtic from Karpaty Lviv for £1 million.
The pacey winger was signed by Brendan Rodgers back in 2019 as Shved was brought to Celtic as cover for James Forrest, in the end the winger didn’t really get enough game time after only making two appearances last season under Neil Lennon.
Many fans were eager to see Shved get more of a shot in the first team as they loved what they saw of the Ukrainian and thought he could compete with Forrest for a first team position.
In the end, Lennon obviously didn’t think he could use him and now Shved will aim at reviving his career in Belgium with KV Mechelen as the club also have an option to buy the midfielder if impressed by his performances throughout this season.
Celtic fans took to Twitter to express their anger at the transfer.
@peterhands said: “Forrest is so protected it’s unreal.”
@PG_67 added: “This isn’t what we meant by free Shved ffs.”
@Bhoy1888Celtic1 tweeted: “I genuinely don’t believe Lennon gets quizzed enough re this guy, ie, where’s he been, is he fit, when will we see him again etc. A stand out for a club battling relegation in Ukraine, I’m curious as to what’s went wrong so far at us.”
@gconnolly87 said: “Best player to never have played for us.
@andyholmes97 tweeted: “Sad.”
@patmanfarrell added: “My heart has been broken.”
@EtienneBojan said: “Another talented player given absolutely no opportunity. We now have one fit right winger in the squad. Are we cost cutting or what? Is their something we should know?”
@Stiofan1798 tweeted: “Doesn’t look like he’s ever going to get an opportunity, odd way to treat a player.”
