Celtic look set to complete a sensational return to the club for former goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

The Southampton man looks likely to return to Glasgow in the coming days, should he pass a medical. A number of outlets, including the BBC, report that the 31-year-old will rejoin up with Neil Lennon and fight for a starting spot alongside Craig Gordon and Scott Bain.

However, a slightly concerning factor in the deal has emerged. STV’s Raman Bhardwaj reports that the Premier League side are likely to hold a recall option for the ex-England international in January.

A recall clause is a bit of a pain for both the goalkeeper and Celtic. While it may just be a security measure for Southampton it does open up the possibility of us having to break up part of an established defence halfway through the season.

Say Forster re-finds his form under Lennon and becomes our number one goalkeeper. When it comes to 2020 Southampton would have the chance to bring him back to St. Mary’s and fight for the jersey there. If they were to have any sort of injury problems or a change of manager then that could seriously alter Celtic’s plans.

t would have been great if the club could have sorted out a minimum year-long loan spell for the 31-year-old. That would have given both ourselves and Forster a level of comfort and time to impress.
