CELTIC are remaining tightlipped on reports from Romania they are on the brink of a £3million deal for Cluj striker Billel Omrani.
The French ace netted two goals to send the Hoops toppling out of the Champions League at Parkhead two weeks ago.
Neil Lennon is said to have been impressed by the 26-year-old former Marseille frontman and, according to media outlet GSP.ro, the Hoops were in the “advanced stage” of negotiations for the player.
Omrani and Cluj were ejected from Europe’s elite competition last night when they went down 1-0 to Slavia Prague to exit on a 2-0 aggregate after losing the first leg a week ago.
That kicked off speculation the Romanians were prepared to sell their hottest property – with Celtic apparently first in the queue for the hitman who joined them from the French giants at the end of the contract in August 2016.
Omrani has claimed six goals in European competition this season and eight overall in 13 appearances.
Lennon admitted he expected “two or three” signings this week and added Austrian international right-back Moritz Bauer, on loan from Stoke City, yesterday.
He has also stated he would like to buy a new striker – and Omrani certainly fits the Hoops identikit – but the Hoops may be prepared to give Vakoun Issouf Bayo a chance to show his worth after his impressive performance after his first start against Hearts at the weekend.
That gives the Irishman the options of Bayo, Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths and he might believe there are other areas in his squad more in need of strengthening.
The transfer deadline is midnight a week on Monday and Celtic are still aiming to bring in another few players.
