Celtic are being linked with a whole host of players this summer, and the main position of concern at the moment is right back.
The Bhoys will see veteran duo Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa leave the club later this month when their contracts expire, meaning Neil Lennon needs replacements for both.
A whole host of right backs have already been linked, and the The Scottish Mail on Sunday(16/06, back page) claim that Sheffield United’s George Baldock may not be available.
That means Lennon is looking at alternatives, and it’s claimed that Arsenal misfit Carl Jenkinson is a potential loan target for the Bhoys as they weigh up other right back targets.
Jenkinson, 27, has become something of a forgotten man at the Emirates Stadium, and it’s no surprise. He’s played just four Premier League games for the Gunners in the last two seasons, seemingly being used as a last resort at right back.
A boyhood Arsenal fan, Jenkinson has been unsurprisingly reluctant to leave the club on a permanent basis, but did impress in a two-year loan spell at West Ham United between 2014 and 2016.
Now unlikely to feature for Unai Emery, Celtic are thought to be keen on Jenkinson, and Bhoys fans have been taking to Twitter over the last week to react, with some murmurings of a move on social media before the Mail’s report.
Some believe that Jenkinson would be a great addition to the Celtic side, feeling that Lennon could get him back to the quality he showed at West Ham, believing he’d be a ‘lovely’ signing whilst urging him to head up to Parkhead.
Others think Jenkinson is horrendous and out of Celtic’s range anyway, though some think the Bhoys would be scraping the barrel with the Arsenal man, claiming he’s no better than what Celtic already have – showing just how split the Celtic fans are on a potential move.
