Celtic could still be in with a chance to sign Ivan Toney from Peterborough as the striker has rejected a move to Championship club Brentford who were the highest bidder ahead of the Scottish Champions.

The Posh striker has made his vision clear as to what level of football he wants to play and that was the reason for Toney and his agents rejecting the Brentford move, there could be a slight chance that Celtic could still sign the striker who scored 24 goals in 32 League One appearances last season.

The downside being, Barry Fry the Peterborough Director Of Football has stated that Toney will not leave his club until his valuation is met, this is cause for concern as Peter Lawwell will not part with £10 million in any form unless Edouard is sold and Hoops fans would rather keep the Frenchman this season even if it means losing money on him.

Fry had this to say:

“The deal we accepted was from a Championship club and there was a lot of add-ons as well which was good but for whatever reason Ivan and his representative turned it down.”

Toney broker his silence on the matter and told Sky Sports his preferred destination:

“I’m a Peterborough player at the moment and I am just doing my thing and enjoying it. I obviously want to play at the highest level, so Premier League so we will see what happens and who comes along.”

Obviously, it would have been sweeter getting promoted but I feel like, from a personal view, it’s time to move on.’ You have to be confident or there’s no point in setting out to play at the top level. I feel like my ability will get me there whether it’s now or next season or whenever it is. I’m sure I will be able to look after myself and do a very good job.

Although we can’t see Celtic paying that kind of money for a League One player, Lawwell could surprise us and actually sign Toney a season before Edouard leaves as this would allow us to clinch 10 in a row and most importantly, allow Lennon to settle in both Ajeti and Toney.

Celtic could still offer Toney something most clubs in the EPL can’t and that’s European football along with winning titles.
