Celtic receive major boost in quest to sign Fraser Forster permanently
When Celtic signed up Fraser Forster on a season-long loan, doubts were raised whether he could still get it done at the top level. After all, he had spent the last few seasons warming the benches at Southampton. Now they cannot wait to sign him on a permanent basis.
It is safe to say he has answered the critics and in spectacular fashion. He has been a rock in between the sticks throughout the season. And his performance at Hampden Park against the Rangers in the Scottish League Cup Final will go down in Celtic folklore.
Now, a huge concern for Celtic fans would be how they can keep hold of the English keeper beyond this season. It is expected that he will take a pay cut to remain at Parkhead. But will the Premier League side let him go at a fee that Celtic can afford to pay?
Well, it looks like they might be forced to. According to a report in The Swiss Ramble, the Saints lost £41 million and have a further £115 million in just salaries, committed for the future. Clearly they need to let a few people go if they are to keep the ship afloat.
And considering their lowly position in the Premier League table, it is safe to say that Celtic could get a good deal for Forster if they tried.
