The pressure has ramped up on Celtic manager Neil Lennon of late after the club’s exit from the Champions League, with Lennon’s team selection coming under increasing scrutiny. It is clear to see a new left-back is required at Parkhead.

Celtic have signed Boli Bolingoli for £3million from Rapid Vienna, though Kieran Tierney left the club for £25million to join Arsenal. But Lennon chose not to play Bolingoli against CFR Cluj, and the Hoops were knocked out.

Lennon came under intense criticism for opting to bench both Bolingoli and Christopher Jullien, but if Lennon does not trust to fill the void left by Tierney on the left side of defence in the big games – then he needs a new left-back.

The Celtic boss has stated that he is still expecting to bring in three or four new players before September 2’s deadline. Celtic have money to spend and they have got to take advantage of Marseille’s failed move for Chelsea defender Baba Rahman.

The Sun reported a claim back in July that Marseille were ready to sign 25-year-old left-back Rahman for a bargain £5million fee. But a move is yet to materialise, and Celtic should take advantage by signing the 25-time Ghana international.

Rahman first joined Chelsea back in the summer of 2015 for a fee of £18million from German outfit Augsburg. But he has played just 23 times for the Blues, instead going out on loan to Schalke twice, before Stade Reims last term.

Rahman boasts plenty of speed and a willingness to get forward. Yes, he can be caught out of position, but his speed allows him to recover. He is also more than adept at taking on set-pieces, and is more than technically gifted.

With just 12 months remaining on his Chelsea contract, he is expected to leave permanently this summer before September 2. Celtic can afford his £5m asking price, and he would be an excellent signing.
