Jonathan Afolabi has confirmed that fellow Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths was the main reason he chose to make the switch on loan to Dundee as the 30 year old advised it.

The duo managed to strike up a relationship while training together over the last few months and when the chance came up for Afolabi to move to Dundee, Griffiths approved of the switch.

The Celtic hitman had played with Dundee as a young player and only had positive things to say about The Dee.

he Irish U21 striker has been told by Neil Lennon and his coaching staff that a place in Celtic’s first team will not happen this season as there is too much competition, the striker was also told that another loan move within Scottish Football would be vital for his development and next season, he could be ready for the first team at Parkhead.

Afolabi spoke with the press:

“I got a chance to talk with Leigh Griffiths as we ended up training together and he said Dundee was a brilliant club to go to, to really kick on with my career.

“So it is only positive when it is someone like Leigh saying things like that.

“I hope to get as many goals as possible to help the team and myself. Hopefully I can reap the rewards when I go back to Celtic next season.

“Being able to watch them train is great. Edouard is only a couple of years older than me so it is good to see the quality he has along with the other strikers.

“It is always something to be able to work towards for the long term – it is good for my aspirations.”
