Celtic might not be making any effort to sign Mohamed Elyounoussi as the Hoops are looking set to table a big offer for Atletico Madrid starlet Riquelme.

With the19 year old’s contract set to run out in the summer, Celtic are hoping that they can persuade the versatile winger to join the Scottish Champions as Elyounnoussi’s price-tag could prove difficult to match.

Both Southampton and Elyounnoussi could be bitterly disappointed by the non-transfer as the English club were willing to take a significant loss to sell the Celtic loan player.

An offer of around £8 million was all the Hoops were needed to match as Southampton paid around £16 million for him to Basel nearly two years ago.

However, Riquelme can also play on both sides and Celtic might see him as another future cash cow for the club.
