Celtic are set to offer their debut star defender Stephen Welsh a new contract as the Scottish Champions are eager to tie him down on a long term deal.

The defender, 20, returned to Parkhead last month after his season-long loan to Championship outfit Morton was terminated early.

Celtic sources are keen on convincing Welsh that his career lies in Glasgow as a host of clubs are keeping an eye on Stephen after his first team debut.

Welsh’s contract, which was signed in March 2018, is due to expire at the end of the season.

Manager Neil Lennon has personally held talks with the youngster, who is regarded as capable of establishing himself in the first team in the future.
