Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has dropped a huge hint that Filip Benković could be on his way out of Leicester City.

The 23-year-old spent a season-long loan deal with the Scottish Champions and many fans wanted the club to sign him outright.

Benković managed to play 20+ games for the Hoops when they were managed by Rodgers and fans will always remember him for his strong performances.

Although the majority of fans felt that Rodgers left the club in the worst manner (through the back door) they could have good feelings about what the Leicester manager had to say about a possible move to Celtic on the cards for the Croatian defender.

The young defender proved to have great potential while playing in the green and white Hoops and that is why he is linked with a return in this January transfer window.

His career has gone downhill since then though. He does not appear to be Rodgers’ plans at all and his loan spell at Cardiff City was also cut short after he had only made one appearance for them till now.

Now, the Premier League side are believed to be looking for another loan club for him and Parkhead has emerged as the most probable decision. And Rodgers’ comments appear to suggest that that is where he could be headed. As reported by The Scottish Sun, he said:

“It’s certainly a possibility. It’s a huge club and he did very well there. We haven’t had any contact but he’s back now and we will see what happens.

“Celtic would be a great move for him. He’s at the age where he really needs to be playing and that didn’t quite materialise at Cardiff.

“I would never blame another manager for not playing someone because circumstances can change all the time but unfortunately it didn’t work out.

“It’s quite simple really, it’s now a case of finding somewhere where he can go next and get some game time.”

Neil Lennon must now look to the British footballing market and attempt to bring in another defender as Chris Jullien is now out injured for the majority of this season, Shane Duffy hasn’t really managed to take Scottish Football by storm either so a backup is required.

The former Celtic player is still only 23 years old and there still is a brilliant player there that Celtic could hopefully get the best out of once again.
