Charlie Nicholas believes that Celtic should be aiming for a higher breed of player as Neil Lennon is still in search for a left back.

The former Celtic star can’t get his head round the fact that the Scottish Champions are aiming so low in their search to strengthen a vital area of the squad.

As the Hoops are still locking on to Charlton’s Alfie Doughty as their main target, Nicholas insists that Lennon should be aiming higher and going after the likes of Leicester’s Christian Fuchs and Tottenham’s Danny Rose.

Both players are in advanced stages in their careers as Fuchs would only be a short term option at the age of 34 with Danny Rose not having a great loan spell at Newcastle United.

Nicholas states:

“They are crying out for a left-back and I would go and ask about Christian Fuchs at Leicester City. The Austrian is a wily old fox that would give the Celtic defence some bite and is exactly what they need both domestically and for the Europa League. I know he is 34 but he is experienced, strong and an attacking left-back. He is sound defensively and good going forward.”

“I don’t think he would cost a lot of money and Leicester might even help out on the wage front. Fuchs would come with a real top-level pedigree and let’s not forget he has also won the Premier League at Leicester.”

“I would love to see Celtic go and try and get a big-name in, even if it wasn’t Fuchs, say somebody like Tottenham’s Danny Rose. He’s a top-level full-back but is on a big salary and I just think somebody who might be too rich, but that is the sort of player Celtic should be aiming at.”

While both players would bring some sort of experience at the club, their wages would prove far too much for Celtic to afford.

Neil Lennon would be better bringing in a mid level player who can grow and still develop, a player who is out to prove his worth in the footballing world.
