Mohamed Elyounoussi can’t wait for Celtic to crack on with their new Europa League campaign as the Scottish Champions were handed a slightly tough looking group.
The Norwegian has said that the rest of the squad are relishing some more epic Euro nights at Parkhead.
The Hoops were drawn against Lille, Sparta Prague and AC Milan.
As we said in a previous post, our group looks more difficult on paper but finishing the group on top is very doable.
Mohamed Elyounoussi understands that its a tough group but the Norwegian will look to Celtic’s experience last season as most people didn’t think the club would make it past the group stage.
Last season, Neil Lennon’s side topped their Europa League group, which also included Italian and French opposition in the shape of Lazio and Rennes, with Romanian side, CFR Cluj, completing the quartet.
Elyounoussi discusses his thoughts on Celtic’s draw:
“We got to see the draw just before we took off and it looks like a strong group. We had a good European season last year and hopefully we can do the same again this year. And hopefully we can have some of the fans back for the emotion of European nights at Celtic Park, and the atmosphere, which would be brilliant, so hopefully we can have some of the fans back.”
“We had a good experience last year,” said Elyounoussi. “Some of the boys are new here so I hope they can experience that as well. Like I said, without the fans we’re playing without a good atmosphere, and I think we need the support from them, especially when we play against the big teams, so I just hope we can have some of them back.
“Either way, we know we have their support, which is always important, and we’re just looking forward to the games.
“Everything’s possible in football. All of us remember that night (in Rome), and the fans who were there had an amazing experience, so hopefully we can have more of that. It is possible for us to go through. We have a strong team and a strong belief in ourselves, so bring it on.
“It’s going to be a busy schedule with a lot of games, and with the national team as well, but we’re prepared, we’re looking forward to it, and we deserve to be there. And with the team we have and the management we have, we can go far.”
