Ex Newcastle Star Confirms Player Bid From Celtic
Lee Bowyer has confirmed that his club has rejected a bid from Celtic for Alfie Doughty as Nicky Hammond named the left sided player as his top target for the Scottish Champions.
Since the whole Bolingoli saga it has become very clear that the rule breaking left-back is on his way out of Parkhead as Lennon cannot trust him to follow the club’s pandemic protocols.
Nicky Hammond who is Celtic’s Head Of Operations, has overturned the club’s recruitment and scouting functions sine joining the Hoops, now his next target for Celtic seems to be Charlton’s Alfie Doughty as Lennon badly needs competition for Greg Taylor on the left hand side.
The League one midfielder can also play pretty much any role on the left hand side of the pitch and Hammond has been in attendance at a few games to scout Alfie himself.
Lee Bowyer has confirmed that a bid from Celtic has been rejected but we believe that was just Lawwell testing the waters and Charlton should come to some sort of an agreement with the Scottish Champions.
Alfie Doughty would be a cracking signing as he fits our transfer policy in regard to being a young player who has plenty of potential, he could easily slot into the hybrid wing-back role but could also provide support in the midfielder area if needed.
“We did turn down an offer from Celtic,” confirmed Lee Bowyer, speaking to South London Press.
“And they were at the game at the weekend, from what I understand. But we’ve not heard anything since.”
The good thing to know is that Hammond hasn’t placed all Celtic’s hopes in one player and there are one or two more that could very well sign for Celtic in the coming weeks.
