Kevin Phillips has stated in a recent interview that Celtic target Ivan Toney should snub all English based clubs in order to join the Scottish Champions as it would be more beneficial to his career than playing for bottom level clubs.

Ivan Toney has been subjected to numerous links to Celtic over the last few weeks and the Hoops have officially made an offer to Peterborough to land the striker, with Brentford now staying in the English Championship after missing out on promotion to the Premier League, Lennon now can offer Toney much more than just a large wage.

The Scottish Champions would be able to potentially give Toney a shot at Champions League football and also the opportunity to be apart of a winning squad who are on the verge of history as Celtic aim to make it 10 league titles in a row.

With Celtic currently getting close to a deal with West Ham’s Ajeti, it could end any chance of a Toney transfer but until that happens, Ivan Toney will remain a name that could make his move to Celtic Park.

Kevin Phillips spoke to the media:

“I have always been an advocate of trying to stay in the Championship or Premier League.

“But if it was a choice between Brentford and Celtic and you have a chance to play in the Champions League and a chance to be part of a squad that could make history – I would opt to go to Celtic.

“To play in front of those supporters, we have all heard it and seen it, it would be awesome.

“To have this chance at this stage in his career, to play in the Champions League, wow.

“Not many player get the opportunity to do that so I would have to opt for Celtic.”
