Former Hibernian player Tam McManus was the first one on Twitter to openly link Steven Fletcher with joining the Scottish Champions as the pundit thought it was a done deal, but now he’s confirming that Stoke wanted the striker more.

Now this makes sense as Celtic would have only signed the 34 year old striker as maybe a third option and would never go overboard in negotiations over any type of player similar to Fletcher.

The player signed a two year deal with Stoke today which McManus admits was a great two year deal for his old playing buddy.

But the facts are simple, Celtic only wanted to offer Fletcher a 1 year deal with an option of a further year if Lennon wanted to keep the veteran on the books, as a 34 year old player it makes total sense that the striker wanted more of a commitment from the Hoops but luckily for Celtic, their pursuit of Ajeti finally got over the line and was confirmed.

The striker had his chance to come to Celtic in his prime and wanted to chase the big money moves in England, so its just basic life karma.

We wish Fletcher luck with his new club and hope he bags a few goals.
