Charlie Mulgrew has stated that Celtic should do all they can to get Leigh Griffiths to sign a new deal as the Hoops star could be set to leave the club during the summer, the former Hoops player reckons Leigh could still prove to be useful to the new manager next season.

The 30 year old hasn’t managed to get alot of game-time this season and many fans would say that it’s his own fault as Griffiths failed to keep himself in-shape during last year’s main lockdown period.

This resulted in Griffiths coming back to Celtic unfit and out of shape and also missing out on the training camp in France.

The striker has had some game-time and managed to score a few goals but nowhere near enough, it still is unclear if Griffiths and Lennon had some-sort of fall out.

Regardless, Charlie Mulgrew does have a point as Griffiths remains lethal in front of goal on his day and at 30 years of age he still has that fire power within himself to prove to another manager that he can be an asset to the club.

There has been rumours circulating that Scott Brown could try and lure Griffiths to Aberdeen next season along with a return to his former club Hibernian, these transfers could happen but Leigh does still have what it takes to return to his top goal scoring form and maybe a manager like Eddie Howe could get that out of him once again.

Mulgrew said:

“If they get someone in this year you might get something extra out of Leigh.

“He’s coming into the last year of his contract if Celtic take up the option. If a manager can get his arm around him and get him scoring, a fit Leigh Griffiths is worth his weight in gold.

“Get him fit, get him striking, get him confident. You know how big confidence is in football and get him scoring goals.

“If I was Scotland I’d get him in the Scotland squad somehow for the Euros. He’s a goalscorer, we saw what he did against England last time and he turns up for the big occasions.

“He’s somebody that I would want in my squad and somebody I’d want to get the best out of.”
