Celtic need to sign new players for the upcoming season, and they will need to replace Odsonne Edouard who is due to leave the club.

Work is well underway to identify possible goal scorers and seek out potential ideas ahead of the summer, so we don’t know with certainty what’s going on behind the scenes.

Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie thinks Celtic can acquire Dundee United’s Lawrence Shankland because he can fill a gap and score goals for Celtic other than Eddy.

Macca is opposed to Albian Ajeti and Patryk Klimala and thinks they should be eliminated in favor for Shankland.

He said:

“I WOULD TAKE SHANKLAND.  HE WOULD SCORE GOALS.  LISTEN, TAKE KLIMALA AND TAKE AJETI OUT THE PICTURE, I’D TAKE SHANKLAND. ALL DAY ALL.  ALL DAY LONG.” MCAVENNIE TOLD OPEN GOAL.

“I LIKED HIM WHEN HE CAME INTO THE SCOTLAND TEAM AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WHERE SAYING HE WASN’T READY. I LIKED HIS MOVEMENT, HIS MOVEMENT OF A STRIKER.  HE’S LIKE MCCOIST, IF YOU LIKE.  THE ‘KEEPER DROPS THE BALL AND HE’LL BE THERE.

A LOT OF STRIKERS JUST STAND AND WATCH AND DON’T ANTICIPATE WHAT COULD HAPPEN.”

It would be a big upset if Eddy were to go in the next window and replaced with Shankland.

I hope that the scouts at Celtic will find something surprising.

Shankland has scored seven goals in twenty-four games, but his success for his team is mediocre.

Has Macca even been observing? Or is he just going by the results in the player’s championship?

As for Celtic fans, they simply wouldn’t accept such a switch in strikers and Shankland hasen’t yet proved he’s ready to compete at a high level yet.

Celtic cannot afford to gamble on players in the hope they hit the ground running, we need first-team players in that will have an instant impact on next season.
