Emilio Izaguirre has insisted that he would have still been a Celtic player today but legal reasons and issues with the Honduran’s agent forced the defender to leave Glasgow.
The former Hoops player states that Celtic offered him a contract that would see Emilio end his career with the Scottish Champions.
Izaguirre was prepared to see out the rest of his playing career with Celtic but a tax scam that his agent was behind forced the left-back to return to homeland as he was hit with a £300K bill.
Izaguirre said: “A serious situation happened to me in Scotland and that’s why I returned. I would have stayed at Celtic and my aim was to remain in Glasgow for many years and Celtic wanted me to stay.
“But I had a tax problem because of the agent from Colombia who cheated me. I trusted the agent and he scammed me. I had to pay over £300,000.
“So I had to tell Celtic I was returning to my country and I have enjoyed it back at Motagua.”
Emilio Izaguirre was a fantastic player for Celtic and although he had his personal problems, Celtic never gave up on him and he’ll always be apart of the Hoops family.
