Neil Lennon expects to add to his Celtic squad over the course of the month as the Hoops gaffer is well aware of the amount of players that have left the Scottish Champions over the summer period.
Lennon understands that Celtic are lacking some depth in certain areas of the squad and one of those areas would be the striking department, the Hoops have been avidly searching for another striker for months now and Lennon tells us why.
Last season the Champions had Griffiths, Edouard and Bayo all out on the sidelines at the one time, the Hoops gaffer had to play Morgan in that role during the Cup and he doesn’t want history to repeat.
Lennon regards Barkas as his only new addition to the club as Elyounoussi simply rejoined from last season, he does state that no new faces will be brought in before Sunday’s game and the squad will need to get on with it.
However, Lennon expects new faces to come in during the course of this month as he’s well aware of possible injuries kicking in.
“We’ve had Mohamed Elyounoussi in the building for a few weeks, though he was here last year. Barkas is the first real new addition to the squad, but we’re looking to add as we go along.
“Strikers play in the most important position on the pitch.
“We’ve had a few injuries and absentees in that department. So if there’s a quality one available and we think it’s right, we’ll pursue it.
Asked about interest in Steven Fletcher, Lennon replied:
“Steven Fletcher’s a good player, but I don’t want to talk about individuals. We’ve been linked with a lot of strikers, midfielders and centre-halves.”
Its widely known that Fletcher has stated to friends that he wants to sign for Celtic even if that means signing a pay per play deal.
Fletcher could be a good back-up if Celtic are keeping a hold of Edouard but Lennon still might want to sign another top striker as Edouard will most likely leave when Celtic lift 10 in a row.
