Celtic are very close to agreeing a contract with AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas as Lennon aims to finally land a first-team keeper.

Whilst Celtic reportedly had their opening bid for the 26-year old rejected by AEK, the report claims that the Hoops have been in dialogue with the Greek international about the terms he’d like if a fee can be agreed and that the club and the player’s agent are close to agreeing a deal.

This could be great news as Lennon should hopefully be able to land the 26 year old in the coming days, Celtic desperately need to bolster that part of the squad as both Gordon and Forster left the Scottish Champions leaving only Scott Bain as our most experienced goalie. (source)

Bain could very well do a job but not the full season as Celtic need a keeper that can perform at the highest level on a weekly basis.

The Hoops’ initial offer was reportedly worth around £3.2million, plus £900,000 in potential add-ons, but that was swiftly rejected. With AEK apparently looking for almost double that amount, there’s still seemingly a way to go before we can confidently predict that Barkas wil be in goal for The Hoops next season.
