Former Celtic player and now Kilmarnock coach Massimo Donati believes Celtic are playing much better under Lennon that with Rodgers.
The big Italian thinks Lennon plays a more practical approach with his tactics and with a lot more balance to the style of play than with previous years under Rodgers who just wants to play beautiful football.
Donati states that Celtic’s defence are solid this season and are only improving under Lennon, last season you could see the cracks at the back under Brendan’s regime, Rodgers plays a more fast paced in your face game of football in the hope that the team scores more than they concede, there’s nothing wrong with that as Celtic would dominate Scottish football under him, it was in Europe that we were caught out big time and you need a rotation of quality players to play such a high tempo style and this is were he went wrong.
Celtic simply didn’t have the man power last year and it definitely showed in the last 3 months of the season, but Lennon steered the ship and we retained the TREBLE.
Donati speaking with Tutto Merca:
“They played almost all 4-2-3-1 games. The way they played has changed compared to previous years, with Rodgers where they always played ball on the ground and started from behind. With Lennon they are more practical. They are less interested in being beautiful but more concrete, more long balls and more battle reflecting in a certain sense what was his own coach when he was playing “.
