The Celtic scouting department hasn’t had any luck in securing a replacement for Fraser Forster and then Craig Gordon as new Bhoy Vasilis Barkas hasn’t been able to live up to his £5 million price tag.
We all wanted the Scottish Champions to sign Fraser Forster but instead, they tried to convince him to return on another loan deal, The Great Wall didn’t want a loan deal but instead a more permanent move.
Then Neil Lennon allowed Craig Gordon to leave for free during the summer and Celtic only had Bain and Hazard to rely on.
We all thought that Vasilis Barkas was going to be a fantastic signing when the club bought him for a staggering £5 million, although the Greek keeper still has a shot at Celtic stardom, the fans have no confidence in him at the moment.
Former Hoops star Frank McAvennie has recently been slating Barkas and his nervy performances and rightly so.
The 26-year-old stands at an enormous 6ft 4in and at times can’t even save a basic shot, that is worrying.
McAvennie tells football insider about his thoughts on Barkas:
“My God, Barkas is awful,”
“I feel for him though because the boy has come in, made a mistake and then realised how big a club Celtic is. He has been getting slaughtered from pillar to post.
“The recruitment at Celtic needs to be looked at because it has not been good enough, Barkas included.”
Neil Lennon has had to use three different goalies this season and it’s not even January yet, this is worrying.
However, we still think that Barkas will come good and just needs some time to settle, we understand that he just didn’t realise how big a club the Hoops are.
For the time being young Conor Hazard must continue his own run of good form and help the club build some momentum as we are due it.
