Preston North End boss Alex Neil has responded to the rumour that Celtic are interested in signing his star player Ben Davies.

The rumour broke over the last few days that Neil Lennon was looking at making a bid for the Championship defender to strengthen his squad of which badly needed some added defenders. (source)

It comes with the territory of being in an open transfer window as Celtic will be linked with a avast amount of players.

Alex Neil said:

“Absolutely not (been any contact) as far as I’m aware.

“If they were coming to buy him? Yeah, well if they’ve got £10m then maybe. Peter Risdale (Preston advisor) would probably tell you £20m.”

At 25, he’s already made over 120 appearances for Preston as well as 110 in the English Championship (Transfermarkt).

These comments from the Preston manager could be the result of him not wanting to lose one of his key players for the coming season.

With Celtic making Shane Duffy their top target, it’s hard to see the Scottish Champions spending more money on a second defender unless Lennon expects a few players of his own to be sold.
