Former Rangers player Alex Rae’s comments after the last Glasgow Derby seem to be coming back to haunt him as Celtic are closing in on their ninth league title.

Last December Gerrard’s team defeated Celtic at Parkhead in a game where the Champions didn’t turn up.

After the match and even that full week, Hoops fans had to deal with the other side of Glasgow hit out with their usual “55 is coming” nonsense.

The media had a field day and so did Rangers supporting pundits like Boyd and Rae.

Rae, however, couldn’t help himself. He stated that he enjoyed the meltdown and that Gerrard had overseen a “remarkable transformation”. Speaking in the Daily Rag, Rae had this to say only as recently as last month.

“I’ve enjoyed the meltdown after the Old Firm game. Celtic have had such a free rein but in the last 20 months there’s been a remarkable transformation at Rangers under Steven.

“People thought the Betfred Cup Final performance was a fluke but to go to Parkhead and play in the manner they did, it was nothing short of sensational from Rangers.

“Celtic deserve credit for being 10 points better off at this stage from last season. So for Rangers to potentially leapfrog them with a game in hand is incredible. It’s the first time in a long time the players will genuinely believe they can win it.”

Nearly Two Months Later

Their comments just make our position that bit more sweeter as the reigning Champions are 12 points clear and Rangers are starting to panic on and off the field.

Steven Gerrard has literally tried everything to topple Celtic and spent a good amount of cash and loans trying to do so.

Lennon’s Hoops squad don’t look like giving anything up and Gerrard should fear the next Derby game as it could be his last.
