Celtic have been handed a much needed boost in their attempts to sign Ivan Toney from Peterborough as the prolific striker would rather sign for the Scottish Champions than Brentford.

The Hoops have been locked in a bidding war the past week with Peterborough as Lennon seeks to bolster his attacking power for this coming season.

Peterborough have already rejected an offer of around £5 million for Toney with Brentford seemingly have tabled the highest over yet for the striker.

If Celtic want their man then Lennon must convince the board to increase their bid to around £6.5 million as Ivan Toney has now stated that Glasgow is his preferred destination despite Brentford possibly playing EPL football next season.

The striker wants the chance to play in European competitions and its apparently a huge draw for the striker and he’d also like to reunite with new Celtic first-team coach Gavin Strachan, who he previously worked with when he was the assistant manager at Peterborough. (source)

Our Verdict

For Toney to openly choose Celtic and state his reasons should be a good sign to fans on whether the striker signs.

It also means that Ivan would rather play football than possibly sit on the bench and claim a big wage or worse still and get relegated again, at least with Celtic he would be guaranteed to be apart of a winning club.
