Neil Lennon has confirmed that Leigh Griffiths was left out of both games against Hamilton and Kilmarnock as the striker is recovering from a calf injury despite many speculations.

Many fans and media outlets had suspected that Griffiths was left out of the squad by Lennon due to his off the field antics as the striker broke lockdown rules that Celtic had put in place to protect the playing squad from the pandemic.

The striker had apparently arranged a party when the squad were told not to break lockdown rules and Lennon has confirmed that although there is an investigation into the incident that wasn’t why the striker was left out it was due to a recurring calf injury that Griffiths has been trying to shake off since pre-season.

Celtic definitely could have used Griffiths yesterday against Kilmarnock as we believe Lennon would have played a 3-5-2 if both Edouard and Griffiths were at his disposal, the gaffer seems as if he’s not ready to trust Klimala in that formation quite yet.

Lennon on the matter:

“The club are doing an ongoing investigation. I’m not convinced it’s a big issue. Hopefully it’ll be resolved in the next couple of days. He has a calf strain so he would’ve missed the game anyway.”
