Since the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as Celtic manager, there has been a lot of optimism. While the outcomes have been uneven at best, there has been a lot of encouraging performance. However, as the season progresses, it is becoming increasingly crucial to start providing results and accumulating points.
Celtic are in sixth place in the Premiership after six games, with nine points. They’ve already dropped three games, with only Livingston having dropped more in the league at this point.
It must be noted, though, that Postecoglou’s team has had bad luck with fitness concerns. Several first-team players are now injured, and several of the summer recruits are still getting used to their new surroundings.
James McCarthy has struggled with the pace and intensity of Postecoglou’s training sessions in Lennoxtown, according to The Athletic (via The Scottish Sun).
McCarthy has failed to make an impression on this Celtic squad.
McCarthy has yet to make an impression on this Celtic team. He joined the club on a free transfer in the summer and signed a four-year contract.
However, due to his fitness difficulties, things have not gone his way up to this point. McCarthy hasn’t played much football in recent years as a result of the same.
He has shown himself to be a brilliant player when on top of his game, and perhaps he will be able to regain that form during his time at Parkhead. And, at the end of the day, he isn’t the only one who has had a difficult season.
Celtic clearly need to improve as fast as possible if they want to compete for the Premiership this season. Otherwise, the championship race might very well be finished before it ever begins.
