FULL TIME : Celtic 1 – 1 Stade Rennais.
The points are shared in Rennes after two penalties decided the game. Despite Stade Rennais great start to the season, beating PSG and currently sitting second in Ligue 1, Celtic were the far better team today. A very good start today with James Forrest, Ryan Christie & Odsonne Edouard being the danger men to the oppositions backline. Mohamed Elyounoussi played his second game for the hoops today and wasn’t far off from getting on the score sheet after being inches away from a sliding goal. Stade Rennais were good on the counter attack which caused tension between the Celtic back line. This led to a chance for the french side when a free header fell to Bourigeaud on the 18 yard line, however, he never took his chance heading it wide. Rennes first goal came from a penalty after a futile challenge from Kristoffer Ajer. From the spot M’baye Niang stood up to take it and slotted it into the bottom left. 1-0.
Second Half :
Celtic went into the second half determined for an equaliser and that’s what Ryan Christie delivered. Rennais Captain, Da Silva gave away a penalty after a foul on James Forrest. Ryan Christie was the man to take the pen and gave Celtic that extra hope. Fraser Forster made a great save not longer after the equaliser and it wasn’t the only stop he made. Bolingoli was took off after which looked to be a groin injury, which saw Jonny Hayes replace him in the 69th minute. James Forrest was close to seeing Celtic leave with all 3 points after a shot saw over the bar from some great dribbling, cutting into the middle of the box. Vakoun Issouf Bayo saw red tonight due to terrible refereeing which saw him his second yellow card. FULL TIME.
My opinions :
Celtic were the best team on the park and were short awarded tonight. We should’ve had two penalty’s and should’ve took the two chances towards the end. Despite a foolish decision from Ajer, a draw is a good result and we now focus on Killie on Sunday 💪
