According to Portuguese publication A Bola, Celtic are leading the pack of teams interested in acquiring Vitoria de Guimaraes midfielder Alfa Semedo.

Despite his contract expiring in 2026, Semedo will be free to leave the Liga Portugal team this summer, according to the source.

Last season, Semedo made 31 appearances for the club, playing in a defensive-midfield position. Following the exits of Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton, Celtic are looking for a new midfielder this summer.

After loan periods with Nottingham Forest and Reading in the Championship, the former Benfica youngster has previous experience of playing football in the United Kingdom.

Semedo has earned eight caps for Guinea-Bassau, having made his international debut in March 2021.

However, it is unclear how much Vitoria would demand for a player who is still under contract with the club for another three years.

Our quest for a defensive midfielder reveals the manner in which Celtic manager  wants to take the club. Hopefully, whether it’s Semedo or one of the other options, we’ll be able to make progress quickly.
