Chris Hughton has been sacked by Brighton today – and the bookmakers have immediately installed him as one of the new favourites to takeover at Celtic next season.
Neil Lennon is currently the interim boss at Celtic but yesterday’s extremely underwhelming 2-0 defeat to arch-rivals Rangers could be fatal to his chances of landing the job on a permanent basis.
And bookies such as SportNation have now priced Hughton at just 3/1 second favourite behind Lennon, who is 6/5, following today’s news.
The 60-year-old has previously managed Newcastle United and Norwich City in England’s top-flight.
Chris Hughton will certainly have a wealth of managerial and playing experience to offer Celtic and that will look great to the Celtic board but is he really up to the job as the clubs he has managed haven’t really won anything, Celtic need a born winner to take the reigns at Parkhead, the only honours he has as a manager is winning the English Championship with Newcastle United back in 2010.
If you want to take into account what Hughton has won as a player then that’s a little bit different as the 60 year old has lifted the FA cup numerous times and also the prestigious UEFA cup with Spurs.
Most people could argue that the leagues down south are more competitive and finishing runner up or a top 4 position in the Championship is more of a difficult task than winning the league in Scotland but for me its trophies that count in my eyes.
What do you think, is Hughton a good fit for Celtic or can we attract a better stature of manager to Paradise.
